European Young Journalist Award 2010

 

Austria, Bulgaria and France take home the flagship EYJA Special Prizes

After months of anticipation, the three winners of the Special Prizes in the 2010 competition have been announced. Vladisav Velev from Bulgaria for the Most Original Report, Prune Antoine from France for Best Research, and Verena Ringler from Austria for Best Journalistic Style, were selected from among the 35 national winners and will each be given the opportunity to take a trip worth up to € 3 000 to a European destination of their choice. A jury of Brussels-based correspondents and previous winners evaluated the national winning articles and selected the three outstanding pieces.

Winners' trip 2010

 

National juries throughout Europe selected the EYJA 2010 national winners, who travelled to Istanbul from 8 -12 May 2010. Istanbul, one of the European Capitals of Culture for 2010, provided an ideal location for the winners to enlarge their vision through cultural exchange. The EYJA winners were given the opportunity to visit a range of historical sites and to explore the cultural and ethnic diversity of Istanbul.

The EYJA was a great experience for me to meet with my colleagues from all over Europe. It was both a beginning of a long-lasting friendship between different cultures and a great chance to meet talented journalists from the European continent.

Taking part in EYJA 2010 was a great opportunity - not only acknowledgment for my work but also a whole new perspective. The most important of all is the knowing that after the visit in Istanbul I have a friend I can trust in each of the other 33 countries.
